Determination zone uranium prospect - taylors pond NL
This showing was discovered in 2006 by Spruce Ridge Resources Ltd and named the Determination Zone. It is the fourth type of uranium minerlization to be discovered within the Deer Lake basin on the island of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Uranium exploration in the Deer Lake basin began in the mid 1970s and exploration was active through the early 1980s. Most of the work was carried out under a joint venture between Westfield Minerals,Northgate Exploration and Shell Minerals. Exploration on the property was sporadic until the last 10 years when interest in the uranium potential of the area renewed.
The Determination Zone occurs in outcrop over an area of 110 meters by 22 meters. Mineralization was discovered by prospectors during follow-up of radiometric anomalies located by an airborne magnetic/EM/gamma-ray spectrometer survey flown in the summer of 2006. Mineralization is associated with discrete hematite veins and extensive clay illitic alteration. The principal alteration mineral (Illite) has been identified by reflectance spectroscopy. The Zone is exposed in outcrop on the side of a ridge within sight of a main highway.
Eleven grab samples taken returned assay results from 0.043% to 0.274% U(3)O(8), with an average of 0.156% U(3)O(8) or 3.12 pounds per ton. Anomalous gold and nickel values are associated with the mineralization.
This showing is located on the Taylor's Pond Gold - Lead - Zinc Property

The Determination Zone Uranium Showing is located on our Taylors Pond claim group. The Taylors Pond property exhibits multi mineral potential with Gold, Silver, Uranium and lead - Zinc having been discovered to date. The claim licenses have numerous un-explored targets that have been identified in airborne geophysical surveys, soil geochem work and by limited prospecting. Past drilling on the property discovered significant Mississippi Valley Type Lead minerlization including: 4.3 meters of 3.19% Pb and 7.3 meters of 1.91% Pb. The property covers 1150 hectares and also features a newly discovered gold zone with values up to 23.1 g/t Au. The property is situated on underexplored geology within what is considered to be an emerging possibly regional sized gold camp. |
